MEADOWBANK TERRACE / Edinburgh / 11 units

We identified a vacant, prominent site forming part of an approach to Holyrood Park. With no prior planning history, the site presented both risk and opportunity. Through a clear urban strategy and careful engagement with the planning authority, HYLO secured consent for an eleven-unit, five-storey residential building.

The architectural response is shaped by the site’s distinctive tapering geometry and its gateway location. The building mass steps and angles to reinforce the street edge while addressing long views towards the park. A carefully composed façade mediates scale, anchoring the corner and giving the scheme a civic presence appropriate to its context.

A key enabling move was the coordination with Scottish Power to relocate an ageing substation, unlocking the full development potential of the site while improving the surrounding public realm.

The proposals were positively received by City of Edinburgh Council as a considered contribution to new housing in a sensitive and visible location.
